Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School students got a lesson on making responsible choices at an event last month with BMX rider Matt Wilhelm and magician Carl “Energizer” Olson.
The 6th annual SADD event took place on Feb. 15, and high school students from H.L. Richards, Oak Lawn High School, Mother McAuley and Marist visited with middle school students as well. The speakers focused on ways students could build trust and confidence and how to make responsible choices.
Students applied in October to be selected as one of two teen directors for the event. The teen directors planned the event, chose the theme and led training sessions. They also designed the event’s t-shirt.
In addition to the teen directors, there was a group of teen staff members.
