Shepard High School in Palos Heights welcomed 20 visiting students and teachers from Johann Wolfgang Goethe Gymnasium with gifts, warm wishes and performances by the cheerleaders, jazz band, show choir and stomp team.

“We always look forward to welcoming a new group of friends from Germany. We’re so glad you’re here,” Principal Josh Barron said. “It’s a great opportunity for all of us to learn about another culture. Enjoy your time at Shepard.”

The students and teachers from Goethe are in the midst of three weeks of living with host families, attending classes at Shepard and living as Americans.

Shepard and Goethe have enjoyed a partnership since 1985.

German teacher Jennifer Fischer and a group of her students from Shepard will travel to Germersheim in summer 2014.
