Lori Chesna, executive director of the South West Special Recreation Association, recently earned her certification as a park and recreation professional from the National Certification Board and the National Recreation and Park Association.
The certification is granted to people employed in the recreation, park resources and leisure services professions who meet eligibility requirements, including a combination of higher education or work experience and who successfully complete the national examination.
Certifications are valid for a period of two years, and professionals who wish to re-apply are required to complete a continuing education unit requirement or equivalent academic course work.
Chesna has been the executive director for SWSRA since 1998. Obtaining the certification was a personal and professional goal.
Chesna and her husband, Robert, have been married for 33 years. They have three children and four grandchildren and reside in Oak Lawn.
