The Autumn In The Park Festival Chili Challenge will be held Sept. 21 at the Palos Park Village Green behind the Recreation Center, 8901 W. 123rd St.
The one-day event will feature food vendors, beer, wine and spirits, a sports cave, radio stations, Arts Colony exhibits, Touch-A-Truck, Cooper’s Hawk wine tasting, a carnival, bingo/raffle, a kids area, hayrack rides, a jumpy jump, face painting, a petting zoo, laser tag, giant slide, crafts and games.
The chili cookoff is sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS) and Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI).
“We are excited to have the Autumn In The Park Festival Chili Challenge featuring both Chili organizations ICS and CASI. Both raise millions of dollars annually for charity,” said LeeAnn Fisk, director of the Palos Park Recreation Department.
The ICS-sanctioned contest includes three chili categories: verde (green), salsa, and traditional red. The CASI contest features traditional red.
The tasting fee is $5. All cooks are entered into the People’s Choice contests. The tasting of more than 30 chilis starts at 1:15 p.m. The Autumn In The Park Festival Chili Challenge benefits the Special Event Fund of Palos Park.
