The newly formed Stagg Alumni Band will perform with the current Marching Chargers at the homecoming football game Friday to celebrate Stagg High School’s 50th anniversary.
Bob Mecozzi, marching band director; Kate Alstadt, Stagg alum, math teacher and color guard staff member, and Christian Ponte, Stagg alum and marching band staff member are coordinating the alumni band.
The alumni band has more than 70 performers, spanning from the Class of 1968 through the Class of 2013.
Frank Liston, Stagg’s first band director and recent District 230 Foundation Legacy Hall of Fame inductee, will be the conductor and guest of honor for the evening. Liston directed Stagg’s bands from 1964 to 1972. During that time he wrote the school’s fight song which is still performed.
The alumni band and the current band will perform during the pre-game and play pep tunes during the game.
The alumni band will take the field with current students to play the “Star-Spangled Banner” and the school song during the pre-show.
