Work has started on what eventually will be a bank built on former village-owned property along 95th Street, south of the Oak Lawn Village Hall and west of the library.
Construction fencing now surrounds the site that had been home to a village parking lot and the village’s senior center.
Oak Lawn village manager Larry Deetjen said the plan is for the new bank building to qualify for designation as an energy efficient building.
“Their goal is to be open and doing business in the spring. There is a trailer on the site offering information about the services of the new bank,” Deetjen said.
The former senior center just west of the old parking lot will be demolished to make room for the bank building.
Oak Lawn Savings and Trust will be owned by Wintrust, which owns the Beverly Bank at 103rd Street and Western Avenue in Chicago.
“Each one of their banks reflects their different communities, the Lake Forests and Deerfields in the world, so we’re pretty excited about this, Deetjen said.
The bank already is hiring, he said.
“And they’re already involved in the community. When I say ‘involved,’ I mean they are a diamond sponsor of our Fall on the Green event,” Deetjen said.
Fall on the Green, an annual event, will be on the Village Green, the area north of the library and east of the village hall, Sept. 6 to 8. Admission is free.
