McDonald-Linn Chicago Ridge VFW Post 177 will host a blood drive on Oct. 12.

It’s one of several events planned in the coming weeks, hall manager Debi Fournier said.

The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the post, 10537 S. Ridgeland Ave., Chicago Ridge.

To schedule an appointment, visit www.heartlandbc.org or call (708) 828-9633.

A photo ID is required for anyone giving blood. Heartland Blood Centers is running the blood drive and supplies the VA hospitals in the area.

Another event — after not being held in October — will return Nov. 7: the post’s monthly spaghetti dinner. It will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The dinner usually is held on the first Thursday each month.

“It gets crowded,” Fournier said.

She helps prepare the spaghetti sauce the day before.

“We make it on Wednesday and let it simmer. It’s all homemade,” she said.

The post will host a craft fair on Nov. 9, and Fournier is looking for vendors.

“This is the first time we’re doing it here,” Fournier said.

Tables cost $30 each and will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call (708) 636-3220.

A constant at the post lounge is karaoke night, held every Saturday starting at 9 p.m.

“There’s a variety, there really is. They pretty much do whatever songs the customers want. They have such a large selection of songs,” Fournier said.

“You pick out the song you want, she puts the disc on, the words come up on the monitor and then you’re out there singing. We’ve got people up here line dancing and everything,” Fournier said.
