Aubrey Powell, 57, American Family Insurance agent, Chicago Ridge
What is your hobby?
“Working out. Being outdoors. I love to attend outdoor concerts. I need to do a lot more of that. When I do, I absolutely enjoy that.”
What’s your prized possession?
“Probably my two daughters. Malia, 20, is away at Northern Illinois University. Kyla, 17, is a senior at T.F. South High School. She is a cheerleader, so I support her at the games. And we try to visit Malia in DeKalb.”
What do you like about Chicago Ridge?
“It’s a nice melting pot. A lot of blue-collar workers who don’t have a problem with a hard day’s work and certainly take pride in their community. They are very friendly and have embraced us. I’ve been here two years and it’s a joy working here. I really enjoy it.”
What book are you reading?
“Joyce Meyer’s ‘Battlefield of the Mind,’ which I love. It’s a spiritual book. She is a well-known pastor from Fenton, Mo. She travels the world spreading the Gospel. She inspires me. The book is about being positive and about putting God first.”
Which person from history do you want to meet?
“Probably Martin Luther King because of everything he stood for (like) people embracing diversity and being OK with that. The equality and human right issues he pushed and preached and talked about. I’d ask him what he felt about what is going on in our world today. Would he feel proud about what he sees right now? I don’t think so. We’ve made some progress. We need more.”
