Richards High School will host its 11th annual Southland Model Railroad Show on Oct. 26 and 27, according to a press release from Community High School District 218.
The event at Richards, 10601 S. Central Ave., Oak Lawn, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 27. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens 65 and older, and free for children under age 12, the release said. Parking is free.
The train show will feature the largest HO layout of any model show in the Chicago area, according to the press release. The event also includes many other model train displays and operating layouts, Lego trains, a riding train for children, train races for children, and a children’s activities area.
Last year, 23 area model railroad clubs displayed layouts, the release said.
This year, the Prairie Scale group will have a train for both kids and adults to ride in. With the price of admission, any adult can ride the train once. Additional tickets will be $1. A child’s ticket (12 and under) is good for three kids activities, including the train ride.
Proceeds will benefit the music programs, including biennial trips to Disney World and for buying equipment and supplies, the release said.
