When it comes to IHSA regional golf meets, both Joe Cuculich and Brandon Murley know what to expect. After all, they both earned All-Regional honors as juniors. This year, the Oak Lawn Community High School seniors both repeated the feat.
Murley shot an 87 at the Brother Rice Regional tournament held at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, while Cuculich carded an 88. Both advanced to the Marist Sectional.
These seniors have been a major part of the nucleus that held the team together all year.
“Joe has played varsity golf all four years, while Brandon has played varsity for three years,” Oak Lawn coach Pat Mayer said. “Joe, Brandon and another senior in Matt Dunne have carried the team all year. The seniors were real leaders this year and we will miss them. They were like assistant coaches to the younger players.”
Cuculich, who also is a member of the Spartans track and field team, was also the medalist in the Spartans’ win over Bremen, while Murley took medalist honors in a victory over Hillcrest.
The regional honors top off great careers for these Spartans on the fairway. Cuculich was also an All-Conference golfer for the last two years in the South Suburban Red.
