Jim Gahagan was hired recently as the new head varsity wrestling coach at St. Laurence High School in Burbank

He is a 1995 graduate of St. Laurence, where he wrestled varsity all four years, winning four freestyle and four Greco state championships as a student.

At the college level, Gahagan wrestled at Phoenix College and University Center Rochester.

During his time spent at University Center Rochester, he also competed on a team that represented the United States for Greco wrestling.

Gahagan’s coaching experience includes time at Tinley Park High School and the Southside Stallions School of Wrestling, where he has been coaching for the past seven years.

As the head coach of St. Laurence’s squad, he said he hopes to “continue to develop the current wrestlers and bring in some new talent to return St. Laurence wrestling to greatness.”

There are several ranked wrestlers at the varsity level including Johnny Gahagan, who is No. 3 in Illinois at 138 pounds; Brandon Ramos, who is No. 4 in the state at 106 pounds; and Frank Tomaskovich, who is No. 11 as a heavyweight.
