St. Germaine celebrates
St. Germaine Catholic School in Oak Lawn is preparing to celebrate Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, according to a press release from the school.
The theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”
St. Germaine, at 9735 S. Kolin Ave, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 26. Other events during the week will focus on teacher, student and parent appreciation, the release said. Activities will include a “PJ’s and Pennies” service project, and the school also will celebrate with a community Mass and prayer service.

SD 123 hosts open house
Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 will host an open house during the districtwide late start period Feb. 5.
Those interested in the 3- or 4-year-old tuition preschool program for the 2014-15 school year are welcome to attend, according to a press release from the district.
The open house will be held at Kolmar School, 10425 S. Kolmar Ave., Oak Lawn, where the program currently is housed.
The program uses the Creative Curriculum Approach and incorporates literacy-enriched instruction while providing opportunities for purposeful play, the release said. The program is taught by a state-certified teacher.
