Greetings, fellow Oak Lawnians! St. Gerald Parish, 9310 S. 55th Court, Oak Lawn, is again hosting its “Dancing With The St. Gerald Stars 2014” dinner-dance on Feb. 22.
This year’s event to benefit St. Gerald School will be held at Gaelic Park, 6119 147th St., Oak Forest, starting at 6:30 p.m. Seven couples, all parishioners, will compete against each other in a dance competition.
Each couple represents different organizations within the parish. The dancers and the organization they represent are Jen and Tom McAcy, faculty; Kelly and Jason Hilger, St. Gerald Athletic Club; Annamarie and Michael Blaha, music ministry; Stephanie and Jim Peltzer, St. Gerald Parish; Toni and Jason Ostrowski, St. Gerald School advisory board; Jean and Mike Riordan, St. Gerald Mother’s Club; and Roseann and Jim Spoto, St. Gerald Holy Name Society.
Debbie Janicke, the parish’s development director, said “we received enthusiastic support from each of the organizations. The couples have been practicing on their dances since early October. They’re all very serious and very committed. They rehearse in a room at the school and in the new gym, and I think they’re even rehearsing on their own.”
The couples have been getting dance lessons from two choreographers, Staci Cousert and Tom Fagan, to perfect their moves. Each couple has selected their music and the dance routine they will perform. DJ Mike and Mama G will be providing the dance music. The winning couple will be selected by the audience from ballots.
Presentation will also be a critical element in the dance competition, so each couple will select their costumes based on their music and dance selections. Contestants’ make-up and hairstyling will be provided courtesy of New Day Spa, 4720 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn.
“Laurie Harrington, one of the owners of New Day Spa, was in our first Dancing With The St. Gerald Stars event (2012), and they think it’s wonderful and are happy to be part of it,” Janicke said.
She said the parish hopes to sell 300 tickets to the Feb. 22 fundraiser, after selling nearly that many last year.
The annual dinner-dance features dinner, an open bar and a silent auction. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased by contacting Janicke at 708-422-2194 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
