Community Sports Calendar (North) for Jan. 26, 2014

BASEBALL

Blue Island: Registration for the Blue Island Little League is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 and 22 at Memorial Park fieldhouse, 12804 Highland Ave., Blue Island. The league is open to ages 4 to 12 who are residents of Blue Island, Calumet Park, Posen, Dixmoor or Robbins. Information: (708) 489-9572.

Hickory Hills: Palos Hills Baseball Association and Hickory Hills Youth Baseball merged to form the Hills Baseball Softball Association. Registration for ages 4 to 16 is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at Conrady Junior High, Roberts Road and 97th Street, Hickory Hills. Southland: Matteson/Olympia Fields Baseball, a private league working in partnership with the Olympia Fields Park District, needs coaches and board members for the 2014 season. Information: Kevin Oliver at (708) 674-7444.

Southland: The South Side Wooden Bat League is an amateur league spanning Chicago and the suburbs. Open to ages 17 and older, the league seeks teams and players for 2014’s season. Information: southsidewoodenbatleague.com.

BASKETBALL

Chicago: The Illinois Defenders’ instructional clinic for girls in grades three to five is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from March 10 to May 19 at Marist High School in Chicago. Marist girls coach Mary Pat Connolly will run the sessions. Fee: $299 (includes T-shirt and Amateur Athletic Union card). Information: illinoisdefenders.com.

Southland: The Illinois Defenders have a limited number of 2014 season openings for girls in grades six to eight. Tryouts will take place to fill the spots. Information: illinoisdefenders.com.

RUNNING

Southland: Devine Nutrition’s Run to the Pub Training Program is a running group that will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 6 to March 13 at bars in Chicago, Evergreen Park and Oak Forest. Members will go outside for a group run led by experienced running coaches, then return to the bar for a free beer and raffle prizes. Fee: $48 (includes shirt). SOCCER

Bridgeview: A pair of Bridgeview Park District soccer programs take place Saturdays from Feb. 8 to March 29 at the Bridgeview Sports Dome, 8900 S. 77th Ave. The Under the Dome Saturday Soccer program is open to ages 5 to 13. Ages 5 to 7 meet from 8 to 8:45 a.m., ages 8 to 10 meet 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. and ages 11 to 13 meet from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. The Shin Kickers program is for ages 3 to 5 and meets from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Fees: $50 for Under the Dome, $40 for Shin Kickers. SOFTBALL

Southland: Midwest Elite Diamond 19-and-over women’s fast-pitch club is looking for college softball players to play in summer.
