A birthday bash and scholarship fundraiser in memory of an Oak Lawn girl who was killed in a 2009 accident is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at Arena Lanes, 4701 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, according to a release from organizers.
The Hurckes family, of Oak Lawn, and extended family and friends once again will celebrate the birthday of Megan Hurckes, who died in an all-terrain vehicle accident in September 2009.
“Megan, who would have been 15 this February, loved bowling and loved to have big parties, so this celebration for her birthday is our way of celebrating her life,” said her father, Jerry Hurckes.
The family was on a Labor Day weekend vacation when the accident occurred, and since then the Hurckes family has worked to keep Megan’s memory alive by starting a scholarship fund for local grammar school and high school students, the release said.
The scholarship fund also helps families by funding scholarships for the Westside Girls Softball program as well as the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn.
The “Megan Hurckes Bowling Birthday Bash” family bowling event is seeking raffle prizes, sponsors and bowlers. Those interested in helping can call (708) 599-7302.
