Community Sports Calendar (North) for Feb. 16, 2014

BASEBALL

Blue Island: Registration for Blue Island Little League is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park fieldhouse, 12804 Highland Ave. The league is open to ages 4 to 12 from Blue Island, Calumet Park, Posen, Dixmoor and Robbins. Information: (708) 489-9572.

Southland: South Suburban College in South Holland and baseball coach Steve Ruzich host adult-child baseball camps for ages 6 to 14 with an adult through Feb. 23. Camps will be for pitching, hitting, advanced hitting, catching and fielding. Fees: $45 for one child and one adult for one camp, $40 per camp if enrolled in more than one, $30 for each additional child. Southland: The Midwest Rangers are looking for players who will be 11 or 14 years old next season. The age cutoff is April 30. The full-time travel team plays a competitive schedule including competing in a national World Series. Information: midwestsportsgroup@yahoo.com or (708) 932-0590.

Southland: The South Side Wooden Bat League, an amateur league spanning Chicago and the suburbs, is open to ages 17 and older and looking for teams and players for 2014’s season. Information: southsidewoodenbatleague.com.

BASKETBALL

Chicago: The Illinois Defenders’ clinic for girls in grades three to five is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from March 10 to May 19 at Marist High School in Chicago. The sessions will be run by Marist girls coach Mary Pat Connolly. Fee: $299 (includes T-shirt and Amateur Athletic Union card). Information: illinoisdefenders.com.

Southland: The Illinois Defenders have a limited number of openings for 2014’s season for girls in grades six to eight. Tryouts will fill the remaining spots. Information: illinoisdefenders.com.

SOFTBALL

Burbank: Registration for Burbank Girls Fastpitch, open to ages 6 and older, is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at State Road Baptist Church, 8310 S. State Road, Burbank. Information: George Harcar at (708) 423-6757.

Southland: Midwest Elite Diamond 19-and-over women’s fast-pitch club is looking for college softball players to play in summer. VARIOUS SPORTS

Southland: The Illinois Officials Association and the South Suburbs Official Association host an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Joliet West High School. Ages 17 and older are invited to get information on becoming an official for basketball, baseball, football, softball or volleyball. Information: ilofficials.com.
