Students at Meadow Ridge School in Orland Park who did not receive a major office referral in the second quarter recently took part in a pancake breakfast. Each grade level had a syrup-covered start to their morning.

At the start of the third grade breakfast, assistant principal Heather Conrad encouraged students to give themselves a round of applause for their exceptional behavior, noting that more than 99 percent of the third-grade students were in attendance.

The day also included a collection for a children’s cancer center, with students allowed to wear hats if they donated.

The breakfast also featured the naming of the top three finishers for a picture book contest themed on the “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” series by Laura Numeroff. Third-grade winners were Elliot Cook (“If You Take an Elephant to a Baseball Game”), Kevin Hurley (“If You Give a Wombat a Watermelon”) and Ezobella Jose (“If You Give a Pony a Cupcake”).
