Thirteen people have completed applications to be considered as Orland School District 135’s new superintendent.
Interim Supt. Dennis Soustek said he has also heard from superintendents at two area school districts who indicated that assistant superintendents from those districts planned to apply for the job.
District 135 board members on Monday approved a contract with Soustek, who will receive $750 a day during his stint as interim superintendent. Soustek, who previously served as 135 superintendent, is taking over temporarily in the place of Paul Howell.
Late last year Howell, who took over as superintendent after Soustek retired in 2010, asked to be reassigned to his former job as the district’s director of curriculum. Soustek is assisting in the search for a replacement for Howell.
Because he is retired, Soustek will be able to work a maximum of 100 days, and his contract runs through June.
Board members have said they hope to offer a contract to the next superintendent sometime in May, with that person starting the job July 1.
