More than $4.5 million in long-awaited school construction funds owed to Homer School District 33C finally will be released by the state, State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) said.
The grant — part of the state’s 2009 construction and job creation bill — will reimburse the school district for the construction of William Young Elementary School, 16240 S. Cedar Road in Homer Glen. The school opened in 2010.
“Once the district receives this reimbursement, they will be able to pay off any lingering debt from the 2010 construction, and hopefully the revenue infusion will give the district some leeway to pay off future obligations,” Radogno said in a news release.
Homer was one of 31 school districts statewide to receive the funds, the release said.
