People came out in record numbers for the third annual Lockport Township High School Foundation 5K run-walk recently at the East Campus.
More than 250 staff, students and community members participated. Runners and walkers who placed in the top three in their age-sex category were given medals.
“This was our best year yet,” said foundation director Kim Brehm. “We are so grateful to the runners and walkers who come back each year to support our students. We cannot thank them enough.”
The event raised more than $7,000 for scholarships, Brehm said, adding the funds only benefit LTHS students.
New this year was a contest among LTHS staff members. Though the English team had the fastest runners, the math team took first place, thanks to the large number of people who competed on its team.
More than 20 math team members, wearing bright yellow shirts with the team name “Hudson Hustlers,” came out in honor of their department chairperson, Julia Hudson, an avid runner who is retiring.
The overall male winner was Zac Sartori, of Homer Glen, with a time of 18:45. The overall female winner was Amy Bowden, of New Lenox, with a time of 20:30. For complete results, visit www.lths.org.
