Lockport Township High School senior Hilary Nguyen is one of 32 students nationwide to be invited to participate in the 2012 JET Memorial Invitation Program, funded by the Japan Foundation, a cultural exchange institute tied to the government of Japan.

It gives participants the chance to go to Japan for two weeks as a group to meet Japanese students, experience the culture and study the language.

The program was created in 2011 in memory of two American teachers who lost their lives in the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.

The purpose of the program is to promote the study of Japanese as well as youth exchanges and to create a network of students for the future.
