Three Lockport Township High School students recently earned top honors at the annual Illinois Drafting Educators Association state drafting and design competition for Illinois high school students.
The student-based contest is one of the largest competitions held in the United States and features some of the best and brightest drafting and design students Illinois has to offer.
At the state level, about 200 students qualified and competed in eight different board and computer aided drafting competitions. At the competition the students are given a drawing problem to solve and design and draw in a specific time limit.
LTHS student Nick Oles competed in machine CAD, Joe Alvarado in introductory CAD, and Brandon Hazlett in 3D solids modeling.
Oles placed third in machine CAD, and Brandon Hazlet finished third in 3D solids modeling but ended up in fourth place because of tie-breaker rules.
