Road work to start on 108th Avenue

Updated: July 9, 2012 6:07AM

A Cook County project to rebuild 108th Avenue from 163rd Place to 179th Street in Orland Park will begin Monday, and detours will be in place starting Friday, according to the village.

The project is slated for completion in early October. While most of the county road will be rebuilt, some newer sections will only be resurfaced.

The two-lane road will not be widened but wider paved shoulders — wide enough to accommodate bicycle traffic — will be installed, the village said.

During construction, 108th Avenue initially will be closed for southbound traffic from 179th to 159th streets, with traffic rerouted on 159th to 104th Avenue. Once work ends on the southbound lane, the traffic direction will be reversed and the northbound lane will be closed to traffic.
