The 1917 one-room schoolhouse that is home to the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce recently was redecorated by a group of chamber members.
The building, which is located at 8799 W. 151st St., Orland Park, had been sporting its nondescript interior for some time after the building was physically picked up and moved in 1988 to its present location.
“It’s great to work in this historic building. We often have visitors that stop in to view a part of the history of the village,” said Keloryn Putnam, executive director of the chamber. “The most interesting visitors are those that have gone to school in this building.
“We love to hear their stories and wanted to keep the interior as true to their memories as possible. We shared this vision with our decorating partners when they stepped in to redecorate for us and they did a fantastic job.”
The office’s new look was unveiled to the community during the Scholarship Award Celebration in June.
“The chamber awards three scholarships to children of members each year, and we thought this ceremony would be a perfect opportunity to say, ‘Thank you’ to those who gave us our new look,” Putnam said. Information: www.orlandparkchamber.org.
