Author Mike Mullin recently spoke to eighth-graders at Jerling Junior High School in Orland Park about his adventure fiction book, “Ashfall.”
Mullin discussed how he began his love of reading and writing, and how he wrote his first illustrative novel when he was in sixth grade.
Mullin also gave background on “Ashfall,” which is about a 15-year old boy named Alex who is forced to survive and find his family in the fallout from a supervolcano eruption.
Mullin also showed his black belt ability in Tae kwondo by breaking a cement brick.
School media specialist Lia Oldaker said she noticed Mullin was going to be in Northern Illinois to promote his book, “Ashen Winter,” and seized the opportunity to invite him to the school.
