St. Joseph principal acts as honorary coin-flipper

Tom Kozak, principal at St. Joseph School in Homewood, recently flipped the game coin before a junior-varsity football game between the St. Thecla Falcons and the St. Al’s-St. Pat’s Celtics in Lemont.
Kozak, of Homer Glen, has been in education since 1975. Starting out as a junior high school teacher in Lockport, he worked the bulk of his career in the Valley View School District system in Romeoville and Bolingbrook.
“I was honored to do the coin flip,” Kozak said. “I’ve never done anything like that before, so it was really a thrill.
“It was even extra special because it was in a game between student-athletes of an age group that I have spent nearly my entire career teaching,” Kozak said. “It was a wonderful experience.
“It was a really nice honor, and it was neat that my brother, Ed Kozak, was the head referee for the contest.”
