Business Professionals of America students at Rich East High School recently participated in the BPA Regional Competition at Robert Morris College in Orland Park.
Several students qualified for the state competition in March.
First-place awards went to Teagan Thompson in fundamental word processing and administrative support team; Anna Kurnat, Anna Farley and Rebecca Dorantes in administrative support team; Sarah Abbott in legal office procedures; and Elyse Terrazas in medical procedures.
Other awards went to Gabrielle Hernandez, second place in payroll accounting and fourth place in desktop publishing; Kurnat, second place in fundamental word processing; Abbott, second in keyboarding production and fourth in financial math; Farley, third place in fundamental word processing; Dorantes, second place in legal office procedures; and Terrazas, fifth place in keyboarding production.
“The kids really did a great job,” Rich East BPA sponsor Bob Frederick said. “We have another great group of kids who are very intelligent, quick learners and love the competition. They represent Rocket Pride very well.
“Plus, this is always such a great experience for them, as they gain an understanding about business and the business world. It is a great beginning for lifelong learning skills, especially in business.”
The students’ next major competition will be the state meet in Oak Brook in early March.
From there, qualifiers would advance to nationals, which will be held this year in Orlando, Fla.
