The village of Homer Glen is considering a plan to allow members of village committees — and possibly village board members — to participate in meetings electronically.
The village board last week heard a proposal to allow members to use phones or Skype video conferencing to take part in a meeting they could not attend because of an illness, disability, work conflict or a family emergency.
Because committee meetings are often small and held around a table or in an office, it would be easy to allow a conference call to take place, Mayor Jim Daley said. Audience members and residents who follow the village through community cable would also be able to hear, he said.
Some trustees, however, want to expand the ordinance to allow village board members to attend board meetings electronically if there were a way to properly participate. Trustees acknowledged the village does not currently have the technology to use in the large meeting room to allow audience members to easily hear the conversations.
