Stagg High School earned top honors at the third annual District 230 School Spirit Showdown.
Teachers from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew high schools took each other on in a floor hockey tournament in the Sandburg gym.
In 2012, Sandburg teachers took home the title in basketball and in 2011 Andrew teachers won the volleyball tournament.
Sandburg and Stagg’s Pep Bands entertained the 300 people in attendance.
More than 800 canned good items were collected for Together We Cope.
The event also featured student competitions organized by Sandburg’s J. Kyle Braid club and mascot battles. Mark Peterson served as referee, Dave Bohac was the announcer and Jason Koch ran the scoreboard.
“Overall, it was a great night of school spirit and healthy competition among the three schools,” said organizer and Sandburg teacher Phil Januszewski in a news release. “Rumor has it a dodgeball tournament is in the works for next year’s showdown.”
