“Senior American Idol,” a major fundraiser for Orland Township’s scholarship foundation, is slated for 5 to 10 p.m. May 9 at Georgios Banquets, 8800 W. 159th St., Orland Hills.

The event is for all ages. Tickets are $25 and are for sale at the township office, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., during business hours. All proceeds benefit the scholarship foundation.

Cocktails are from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 5:30 p.m.

The after-dinner singing competition will be hosted by HGTV Design Star’s Kevin Grace, a Chicago native who has been decorating retail spaces and homes for the past 20 years, using his distinct style and vision.

During a February tryout, 16 singers were selected to perform before a panel of judges, which includes two former American Idol contestants: Gina Glocksen, who finished in ninth place in Season 6, and Kyle Dee, a Season 11 competitor.

Both American Idol alumni will perform a song for the audience. They also will share the judging panel with radio personality Rich Renik of WCCQ, talent agency owner Don Underwood, and local entertainers Mr. and Mrs. “O”.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by The Band Sundance.

The event will include a red carpet for singers and attendees to have their pictures taken, in true Hollywood fashion; plus raffle and contest opportunities, with proceeds benefiting the scholarship foundation.

“This will be a big night for the scholarship foundation and for our seniors, who I can’t commend enough for their bravery in auditioning and performing for this occasion,” township supervisor Paul O’Grady said in a news release. “Our young scholars are going to benefit greatly, and those who join us for the evening will not be disappointed with the entertainment. It’s certainly going to be a night to remember.”
