The Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce recently awarded scholarships to local high school students at a ceremony in the chamber’s office.
Each year the chamber awards three $1,000 scholarships to the children of current chamber members.
“All of the applicants had impressive accomplishments”, scholarship committee chairman Heather Warthen said.
“They are all hardworking, multifaceted students. I’ve been doing this for a few years, and it gets harder and harder to pick a winner.”
This year’s recipients were Kevin Sicher from St. Rita High School in Chicago, Melanie Adams from Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort and Marisa Garoufalis from Sandburg High School in Orland Park.
The scholarships were awarded based on community service involvement, school performance and activity involvement, and consideration of employment during the school year.
