The Bridge Teen Center will host an inaugural Community Walk at 9 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave.
Funds raised by the walk will support free after-school programs at the center. Participants can learn about the Bridge’s programs at stations throughout the 11/2-mile walk.
Stations also will include a community art project, a community service project to support military families, and an “Are You smarter than a 7th grader?” challenge.
There will be a post-walk culinary demonstration with Whole Foods Market, and a quick CPR lesson at an Orland Fire Protection District station.
A celebration that includes a live performance by Nickelodeon star and “X-Factor” finalist Rachel Crow will follow. Crow is working on her own Nickelodeon musical comedy show and recently lent her voice to the film “Rio 2.” There also will be food and refreshments.
The registration fee for walkers is $25, which includes a free T-shirt while supplies last. Walkers who raise $100 will receive a $10 Whole Foods Market gift card. The top fundraisers also will receive prizes including an iPad mini (to the top fundraiser among seventh- through 12th-graders), a $100 Harry Caray’s gift card (to the top individual fundraiser), and a $500 Harry Caray’s gift card (top fundraising team).
Walkers can register by visiting www.isupportthebridge.org/walk; by picking up a brochure at Whole Foods Market, 15260 S. LaGrange Road, Orland Park, or at the Bridge Teen Center, 15555 S. 71st Court, Orland Park.
Day-of registration is from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
