Sandburg names two as athletes of the year

Wrestler Ricky Robertson and volleyball player Dakota Hampton were named Sandburg High School’s 2012-13 athletes of the year.
Finishing his two-year wrestling career at Sandburg in Orland Park with a record of 99-1, Robertson capped his senior campaign with a state championship and a 50-0 record.
Through the years, Robertson amassed several accolades including a Cadet National Championship and a multiple-time All-American, All-Tournament team at the prestigious Clash National Duals.
He also was a Team Illinois Dream-Team member and team captain on back-to-back state championship teams and had WIN Magazine give him a national ranking of No. 1 in the United States when he was at 195 pounds.
Robertson received a full scholarship to wrestle for the University of Wisconsin.
A three-time varsity letter winner, Hampton had more than 800 kills on varsity and made the Southwest Suburban Blue All-Conference team her junior and senior year.
Hampton was selected to the SouthtownStar All-Area team twice along with the All-State team of SouthtownStar sister newspaper the Chicago Sun-Times during her senior year.
The News-Gazette named her one of the best players in Illinois as she made the Champaign-based newspaper’s First Team All-State list as well.
Hampton concluded her high school career by making the SportsTownChicago.com All-Star team.
She is on scholarship at the University of South Florida.
