Orland Park to vote on vehicle sticker hike

Updated: August 4, 2011 4:20PM

Orland Park residents likely will see vehicle sticker fees double this year.

The village finance committee Monday approved increasing vehicle sticker fees with the full village board expected to vote on the fees Feb. 21.

If the ordinance is approved, sticker fess for passenger cars and motorcycles will increase from $15 to $30, according to a village memo.

The sticker is valid for a two-year period, village officials said.

The vehicle sticker fee for senior citizens will increase from $1 to $10.

Other fee increases include $22 to $40 for recreation vehicles; and fees for most truck vehicle stickers go from $22 to $30 for B plates and from $30 to $40 for D plates.

The proposed ordinance “raises modestly some vehicle sticker fees we approved at budget time,” said Trustee Edward Schussler, who is chairman of the finance committee.

Trustees have been discussing the increases since September when the village board began work on the 2011 budget.

If the fees are raised, the village will receive nearly $1.1 million in revenue in 2011, which would be an expected increase of approximately $544,000, according to the memo.

In December, the board approved an annual budget anticipating revenue at $114.3 million, while spending an estimated $124.4 million.

When the village began the budget process, there was an estimated $1.8 million shortfall that was reduced through increases of fees including parking fines and higher recreation department fees as well as reductions in expenditures.

The village switched from annual stickers to stickers valid for a two-year period in 2002.

Seniors currently can obtain two stickers per household for a reduced fee of $1 per sticker with approximately 6,000 senior stickers currently issued.
