St. Rita High School recently awarded five eighth-graders at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School in Orland Hills with the Mustang Award, which began in 1983 to recognize young men with future potential.

Mustang Award winners are nominated by their school principal, then must complete an application, essay, letter of recommendation and an interview with St. Rita faculty and staff.

St. Rita recognizes the young men for their pursuit of excellence in academics, athletics, activities and their commitment to spirituality.

The 2011-12 Mustang Award winners from CJB include Colin Brankin, Michael Laird, Zachary Svabek and John Wolf, all of Orland Park; and Mark Harris, of Tinley Park.
