With the recent closing of three Orland Park establishments that served liquor, the village is cutting back the number of village-issued liquor licenses.
At Monday evening’s village board meeting, trustees are expected to approve an ordinance requested by Mayor Dan McLaughlin to trim the number of Class A licenses by four, from 57 to 53.
Class A licenses allow on-premises consumption of beer, wine and distilled alcohol.
According to the mayor, the cutback is being prompted by the closings of Lang Lee II, Sam Maguire’s and Ruby Tuesday, and the decision by Palermo’s to change to carry-out and delivery only at its Orland location.
Lang Lee II was a tenant in Orland Plaza and closed in the fall, while Ruby Tuesday closed its restaurant in Orland Square Mall in December and Sam Maguire’s, an Irish pub and restaurant near the mall, closed this month.
The village can, by ordinance, increase or decrease the number of liquor licenses that are available.
Trustees also are expected to approve plans for a nearly 4,000-square-foot Buona Beef restaurant on 131st Street just east of LaGrange Road in Southmoor Commons. The restaurant would have a covered patio and drive-through lane.
