Twelve eighth-graders from Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School in Orland Hills recently participated in the sixth annual St. Ignatius Junior High Scholastic Bowl in Chicago.

One CJB team placed second in the event, which included teams from 24 schools throughout the Chicago area. Members of that CJB team were Michael Laird and John Wolf, both of Orland Park; and Monica Gallagher, Nick Kamholz, Natalie Plys and Michael Tolan, all of Tinley Park.

Colin Brankin, Jonathan Hoelzel, Tom Kelley, Madelyn Nicholson and Catherine Viz, all of Orland Park; and Nick O’Connell, of Homer Glen, also represented CJB in the competition.

“We are all proud of their accomplishments in this intense academic bowl,” said CJB academic team coach Christine Kirk. “This is the second time we have reached the championship game at this competition in our five years competing at St. Ignatius.”
