Cory Chojnowski, a 285-pounder, is a returning state qualifier for Andrew wrestling. He looks to advance deep in the state tournament after claiming first place at the Andrew Regional on Feb. 4. He also won the Charger and Rich East invitationals, and took second in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

What were your goals coming into the season?

I won one match at state last year. This year, I’m hoping to place and get on the podium.

As a heavyweight, is it tough to find wrestling partners in practice, or do you beat up the little guys?

(Laughs). It can be tough, but our coaches do a nice job of bringing in former Andrew wrestlers who beat me up a little bit. It’s been good for me. I’ll also mix it up with some of the coaches every now and then.

Andrew wrestling is having a good season as a whole. What do you like about the team?

We’re a little low in numbers, but like our football team, we have a good team chemistry.

What position did you play in football?

I played right tackle and defensive line.

You’re a senior and prom is approaching. Who is your dream date?

I’ve got to go with my girlfriend, Hannah, over anyone. She’ll like reading that.

Any concert, past or present, who are you going to see?

Eminem. He’s my favorite artist. I listen to a lot of rap, but I like all types of music.

If you had to, what’s the easiest to give up: TV, Internet or cell phone?

Definitely TV. I’m a texter and a big Internet guy.

How did you get into wrestling?

One of my buddies was into it. He wrestled for the Tinley Park Bulldogs, so I naturally became interested. I started when I was in the fourth grade and ended up winning a state tournament. I’ve had some success so I stuck with it.

As told to Logan Malloy
