The Andrew Winter Percussion Ensemble recently earned a silver medal at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

The ensemble performed its 2012 show, “Until Tomorrow,” to a packed crowd at the Dayton Arena. Earlier in the season, citing an outstanding level of performance, WGI officials bumped the group up to “Open Class.”

In keeping with the theme of their show, which depicted the range of emotions people go through when a loved one goes off to war, students collected donations of cash and nonperishable goods to send to the troops serving overseas.

Students collected nearly $800 and two van loads of items and created nearly 100 care packages for the troops.

This is the second time the ensemble has won a silver medal.

“These talented young kids are truly some of our town’s finest,” said Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki.
