When Kari Hoffman stepped up to the checkout desk at Tinley Park Public Library recently, she had no idea that her daughter, Alyssa, was going to be the lucky winner of a gift basket valued at more than $50.

The library has been on the watch for the lucky buyer of the 50,000th candy bar since the start of summer. In celebration, Hoffman received a gift basket containing a $50 Fannie May gift card and a selection of Fannie May candy bars.

The Friends of the Library groups sells Fannie May candy bars as a fundraiser to make purchases for the library and subsidize programs for adults, children and teens.

The library is at 7851 Timber Drive, Tinley Park.
