Tinley Park will play a role in helping present a parade for veterans of the war in Iraq.
A pizza party fundraiser for the parade will be held at the Tinley Park VFW Post 2791, 17147 S. Oak Park Ave., from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 5.
The pizzas are being donated by Aurelio’s and all the proceeds are going to Chicago Welcomes Home the Heroes, the organization sponsoring the parade.
The parade will be held on Columbus Drive in downtown Chicago at noon Dec. 15, organizer Steve Lulofs said.
Other events planned for the weekend include a reading of the names of members of the armed forces who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan on Dec. 14 at a site to be determined, and a resources fair for veterans after the parade on Dec. 15 at Navy Pier, Lulofs said.
The all-you-can-eat pizza party, which is $10 per person, will include live entertainment, raffles and a silent auction, he said.
