Grandparents and other “grandpersons” recently attended the annual Grandparents’ Day event at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School in Orland Hills. The guests visited their grandchildren’s classrooms and met with their teachers.

Bob Walsh, of Palos Park, came to visit his granddaughter, kindergartner Anna Walsh, and said he was impressed by the school’s use of interactive white boards.

“This is a big departure from the chalk and eraser days,” Walsh said. “The technology is a great surprise, and the hardware and software these kids use is fantastic.”

Anna’s aunt, Karen Blaser, of Homer Glen, said she enjoyed the more subtle aspects of the morning.

“It’s just wonderful to see her normal routine and experience how she gets her day started,” Blaser said.

Principal Mary Iannucilli said the students look forward to Grandparents’ Day.

“Year after year, the CJB school community eagerly awaits this special day with our students and their grandparents,” Iannucilli said. “It is on this occasion that we embrace the true spirit of being one big CJB family.”
