Students at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School in Orland Hills recently competed in St. Rita’s Academic Olympics.
CJB students earned 12 medals and took two of the top four overall awards. More than 100 students competed in math, English, science and social studies and took four tests in two hours.
“We’re so proud that so many of our students took the initiative to participate in this competition,” CJB science teacher Christine Kirk said. “The St. Rita Olympics is a great opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in a wide range of subjects. This is the first academic bowl for most of our seventh-graders, and it’s a rigorous competition.”
Seventh-grader Michael Kohler, of Orland Park, earned a gold medal in science and a silver medal in social studies.
Other eighth-grade winners include Joey Harris, T. J Quinlan, Clare Murphy, Caitlin Shanahan, Maryclare Leonard, Zach Flowers and Frank Baffoe, all of Orland Park; Dani O’Connell and Jackson O’Connell, both of Homer Glen; and Ronnie Fiala and Joe Kopeika, both of Tinley Park.
