FRANKFORT
FHBA hosts wine fundraiser
The Frankfort Historic Business Association recently held its inaugural “Wined-ing Through Historic Downtown Frankfort” wine walk, which featured wine tastings, appetizers and live music.
The event raised $1,500 for the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association’s “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies” fitness program for disabled veterans, which provides a free one-year membership to the Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, along with 15 free personal training hours.

Park district receives awards
The Frankfort Park District recently received two statewide awards at the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ Best of the Best Awards Gala.
The park district was first runner-up in the best green practices category for its work with the All Natural Bio-solids Fertilizer Program.
The park district also was second runner-up in the partnership category for its partnership with the Frankfort Athletic Association, Frankfort Baseball, Frankfort Girls Softball and the Lincoln-Way Soccer Club.

Defense secretary honors LW-N teens
Several Lincoln-Way North High School students recently were recognized by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta for their commitment, service, leadership and academic excellence.
The school’s Air Force Junior ROTC Academic Team, led by Lt. Col. Michael Wingfield, received a letter from Panetta in late October recognizing students for their participation in the 2012 Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Leadership Symposium and Academic Bowl in Fairfax, Va.

Women’s club donates blankets
Members of the Frankfort Women’s Club recently made 43 blanket bags for the Crisis Center for South Suburbia in Tinley Park.
The bags were given to the children as they entered the crisis center. Each bag consists of a fleece blanket, two toys, two story books and a bag containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and a wash cloth.

Library joins in Games Day fun
Mokena Public Library recently participated in International Games Day and offered special gaming programs and events for the whole family.
“Libraries are becoming family destinations and are continuously offering new formats and innovative programs and services that educate, entertain and expand interaction with their users,” said Cathy Palmer, the library’s executive director.
“Gaming is yet another example of how libraries are becoming more than just educational resources for the communities that they serve. They are also places where users of all ages are welcome to have fun together.”

NEW LENOX
Library receives fund donation
Michelle Monbrod, president of the Friends of the New Lenox Public Library District, recently presented a $6,500 check to library president Lou Broccollo. The money was raised at the Spring Arts Festival.
The library will use the money to buy additional eReaders and eBooks for New Lenox residents.
