As part of an effort to gather donations for victims of the devastating Oklahoma tornado, Bettenhausen Automotive on Friday will raffle off 10 pairs of lawn seat tickets to that night’s Tim McGraw concert at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.
Each person who brings an item to Bettenhausen’s drop-off point — starting at 4 p.m. Friday at the Sweet Spot Bar and Grill, between Odyssey Fun World and Odyssey Country Club — will be entered in the concert ticket raffle.
Separately, the company’s three dealerships also will be collecting donations until 10 a.m. June 9. Items will be delivered to Oklahoma City and distributed to service organizations, the company said.
Items being sought include flashlights, blankets, diapers, baby formula, buckets and storage bins. For more information and a list of requested donations, visit www.bettenhausenautomotive.com.
The company previously has sought the public’s help in gathering donations in the wake of natural disasters, including Hurricane Sandy and the tornado that tore through Joplin, Mo., two years ago.
Bettenhausen said its dealerships will collect donations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The stores also will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Memorial Day.
Contributions can be dropped off at the company’s two Tinley Park dealerships — Bettenhausen Fiat, 17514 S. Oak Park Ave., and Bettenhausen Dodge Ram, 8355 W. 159th St. — as well as at Bettenhausen Chrysler Jeep in Orland Park, 15941 S. 94th Ave.
David “Snake” Nelson, a member of the Warriors Watch Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders, is organizing a motorcycle ride to collect donations for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and hopes to have other riders join him en route to Oklahoma as he picks up donations.
Nelson will be stopping at Harley dealerships along the way to pick up more donations and riders.
The ride is scheduled to leave about 9 a.m. Friday from Chi-Town Harley-Davidson, 17801 S. LaGrange Road, Tinley Park. Donations can be dropped off early or delivered in person, with checks made out to The Red Cross.
Nelson plans to arrive in Oklahoma on Sunday morning, make the presentation, then head home. Those interested in riding or donating can contact Nelson at (708) 692-5958 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
