Andrew graduate named Jewel scholar

Kara Frye, 18, Tinley Park, recently was awarded the Jewel Academic Scholarship.

The four-year scholarship is awarded to employees who “best exemplify the qualities valued by the company, including exceptional customer service and superior academic achievement.” Frye also wrote an essay.

Frye is a 2013 graduate of Andrew High School. She was actively involved in theater, performing in six musicals which included several lead roles. She also was the featured dancer in the marching band color guard and a vocalist in the jazz ensemble, a cappella choir and jazz choir.

Frye has been a cashier and hostess at Jewel Foods in Oak Forest.

She will be studying at Northern Illinois University where she is enrolled in the pre-elementary education program.
