Community Consolidated School District 146 has adopted a new writing book series, “Aviator,” for kindergarten through fifth grades.
Nancy Schwab, District 146’s director of curriculum, said, “The program is well-aligned with the Common Core State Standards and will become a part of the routines that will help our students to become better writers.”
“The strong emphasis on writing will be a new one for students and teachers. It’s a new way of thinking and teaching. The students will take ownership of writing topics, pushing the writing to be more student-centered. Common Core State Standards raised the standards, but D146 will raise that bar even further. We want to push our students to strive for more, and I feel that with this series we will be able to do so,” Schwab said.
