ART

THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015.

Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

FESTIVALS

CHICAGO HEIGHTS’ FESTIVAL OF SISTER CITIES: Bloom High School grounds, 101 W. 10th St., (708) 756-5300 (city of Chicago Heights): This second annual event will feature a carnival, pony rides, corn-hole tournament, car show, food vendors from each sister city: Wadowice, Poland; Asuogyaman District, West Africa; Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Mexico; and San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Sept. 6, noon-10 p.m. Sept. 7 and noon-7 p.m. Sept. 8

FLOSSMOOR FEST: Downtown Flossmoor and Flossmoor Park: (708) 798-2300: This event will take place from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sept. 7.

HOMER HARVEST DAYS: Trantina Farm, 15744 W. 151st St., Lockport, (708) 301-0522 (Homer Township administration office): Acres of old-fashioned fun await at this sixth annual event, which will take place from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 7 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 8.

OAK LAWN’S FALL ON THE GREEN: Oak Lawn Village Green, 95th Street and Cook Avenue, (708) 636-4400. This event, which will take place Sept. 6-8, features food, entertainment, games and vendors.

TINLEY PARK’S MUSIC IN THE PLAZA: Zabrocki Plaza in downtown Tinley Park, (708) 444-5678: Attendees should bring lawn chairs and blankets. Refreshments will be available for sale. Concerts in the series include Cadillac Casanovas at 7 p.m. Sept. 7.

MUSEUMS

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: “Cosmic Wonder” recently opened. Other exhibits include “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Scenes from the Stone Age: The Cave Paintings of Lascaux” to Sept. 8 and “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence” to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: Exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: “Stingray Touch” recently opened and runs to October. Other exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

PLAYING LIVE

FIRST MIDWEST BANK AMPHITHEATRE: 19100 S. Ridgeland Ave., Tinley Park, (708) 614-1616: Miranda Lambert’s Locked and Reloaded Tour with Dierks Bentley, Brett Eldredge and the Cadillac Three will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 7. Tickets are $29.25 for general-admission lawn, $29.25-$54 for first or second pavilion and $54 for general-admission pit. VARIETY

BACINEMA SCREENING OF “BLACKFISH”: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The weekly film series continues with this screening at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Rated PG-13, the film runs for 1 hour and 23 minutes. Tickets are $7.50, or $5.50 for center members.
