Here is a look at sporting events in the SouthtownStar’s Central region, which includes Crestwood, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Manhattan, Midlothian, Mokena, New Lenox, Oak Forest, Orland Hills, Orland Park, and Tinley Park.
ORLAND PARK: The Illinois Hoopla will host peewee basketball minicamps for grades one to three from Monday to Oct. 4, Oct. 7 to 18 and Oct. 21 to 30. Winter travel season tryouts also will take place for grades three to eight, beginning Monday. A Back to School camp also is running to Oct. 31. ORLAND PARK: The Illinois Hoopla will host a 3-on-3 Basketball Blowout tournament for boys and girls teams. The event, which is open to grades three to eight, is scheduled for Oct. 7 to 16. Information: Rick Palmer at (708) 460-6513 or Hooplamr@aol.com or illinoishoopla.com.
SOUTHLAND: Richards High School in Oak Lawn and boys basketball coach John Chappetto will host a boys minicamp for grades three to eight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 to 30. Fee is $40. Information: John Chappetto at (708) 499-2550, Ext. 5340.
NEW LENOX: Providence Catholic High School’s state champion cheerleading program will host a clinic for kindergarteners to eighth-graders from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Columbus Day, Oct. 14. Individuals and teams are welcome. Fee is $35 per participant and includes aT-shirt and pass to all Providence sporting events for the school year. Registration is due Sept. 27. SOUTHLAND: Unique Bassmasters, Rayjus Outdoors and the Oak Lawn High School Spartan fishing team and its sponsors will host the Rayjus Outdoors-Oak Lawn Community High School Bass Tournament on the Kankakee and Des Plaines rivers on Oct. 12. Cost per boat is $40 and schools may enter an unlimited number of boats. Space is limited to the first 50 boats registered. Information: Chris Kuchyt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MIDLOTHIAN: The Bear-ettes poms and Twirling Bears baton programs, of Midlothian and Oak Lawn, will conduct registration for pom, hip-hop, flag and baton classes for ages 6 and older from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Midlothian Park District. Information: (630) 324-6421.
