Here is a look at sporting events in the SouthtownStar’s Central region, which includes Crestwood, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Manhattan, Midlothian, Mokena, New Lenox, Oak Forest, Orland Hills, Orland Park, and Tinley Park.
Southland: The Illinois Hoopla hosts peewee basketball minicamps for first- to third-graders from Oct. 7 to 18 and Oct. 21 to 30. A Back to School camp is also running to Oct. 31. Information: Rick Palmer at (708) 460-6513 or Hooplamr@aol.com or illinoishoopla.com.
Southland: The Illinois Hoopla hosts a 3-on-3 Basketball Blowout tournament for boys and girls teams for those in grades three to eight. The event is scheduled for Oct. 7 to 16. Information: Rick Palmer at (708) 460-6513 or Hooplamr@aol.com or illinoishoopla.com.
Southland: Richards High School in Oak Lawn and boys basketball coach John Chappetto host a boys minicamp for grades three to eight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 to 30. Fee is $40. Information: John Chappetto at (708) 499-2550, Ext. 5340.
Southland: Unique Bassmasters, Rayjus Outdoors and the Oak Lawn High School Spartan fishing team and its sponsors host the Rayjus Outdoors-Oak Lawn Community High School Bass Tournament on the Kankakee and Des Plaines rivers on Oct. 12. New Lenox: The Lincoln-Way girls lacrosse team hosts a free clinic for girls from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Liberty Junior High School in New Lenox. Equipment will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Information: email@example.com or lincolnwaygirlslax.com.
Frankfort: The Frankfort Park District offers a Junior Spikers program for those in grades one and two from 6 to 6:45 p.m. beginning Tuesday and continuing on Tuesdays to Nov. 5 at Grand Prairie Elementary School in Frankfort. Participants will use a special “no sting” lightweight volleyball and lowered nets. Fee is $49 for residents or $54 for nonresidents. Information: frankfortparks.org.
